Summer in France and Spain 2019 (Day 17)

Luzech and the Causses du Quercy

Saturday, 03.08.2019

many km

The last time we have been on the Lot, we figured, that the Causses are a beautiful place to discover. Mainly because there is not much to discover. At least at first sight. The Causses are one of the most sparingly populated areas in France. Sounds good.

We have no plan in particular. Other then visiting a museum that has cars in in. Because, you remember, cars are still the lad’s big thing.

But first its windmill (ruin of) and church (Romanesque).

Old village.

And so we potter along on tiny and even tinier roads. Meeting no one for hours.
But by pure chance, just as we start to feel this slight tingling of need for a light lunch, we pass through Espédaillac.
Never heard of it? You cannot be blamed. This is what Wikipedia has to say about it. All of it:
”Espédaillac is a commune in the Lot department in south-western France.”

With this overload of information, you would hardly expect much. Until you see a little sign at an old house, spelling “Auberge Beauville”. You catch a glimpse into the court yard and instantly know that this must be this hidden France, this secret Nirvana like place, people keep waxing about.

We throw the anchor and see if we can get a table. And we do get a table in the shade under the chestnut tree.
Also we get without any questions asked a litre (1000ml), not a mere bottle of red wine. Bingo.
Then we are told what there is for food. Five course, that’s what we have, love it or leave it. And god did we love it. Two hours of basic, but delicious and freshly cooked food. And I wont even tell you what we payed. I am still embarrassed how little it was.

And as a bonus: We already know where we we will going for lunch tomorrow.
Now its off to the quaint and quirky Musée du Patrimoine Agricole et Automobile de Salviac.

How about a Porsche?

Or even a Multi Babi.

A quick trip to the Big Apple?

And obvious French classics.

By now it is ragingly hot and it is time to get back to our holiday home. Which is still floating and makes for a good refreshing swim.
Bliss.
